The most powerful consoles on the market - which one to choose?

The PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X are two of the most powerful consoles on the market today, and banners around which clusters of supporters and buyers crowd. These are groups that are incredibly hostile towards each other and devotees of one console usually have a very bad opinion of the competitor's device.

There are many reasons for choosing one or the other option or rejecting one of them, it's worth mentioning them here. It can be difficult to convince someone from one camp of the merits of another device. However, looking from a neutral point of view, which console is better?

Where's the power?

If you look only from the pure power side of such a device, the slightly newer of the consoles, the Xbox One X, fares quite clearly better in this regard. But it's difficult to limit ourselves in the choice of console only to the pure processing power, especially since the differences here are not at all large. Despite everything, you have to congratulate Microsoft engineers for doing a really great job.

Device specifications

A simple comparison is pointless here, as we need to be able to distinguish between the potential power of the devices and the real possibilities of using it to produce an appropriate experience for the user. Games usually come out on several platforms at once, and manufacturers try to make them look the same on each. Sometimes this means differences in fluidity, so it's worth taking a look at the performance of individual devices.

The PlayStation 4 Pro for £1,500 offers us:

- CPU 2.1GHz 8-core AMD "Jaguar"

- GPU AMD Polaris integrated graphics, 4.2 TFLOPS

- RAM 8GB GDDR5

- 1TB HDD

- DVD reader, Blu-Ray

Xbox

Xbox One X for 2100 PLN has to offer

- CPU 2.3GHz 8-core AMD "Jaguar"

- GPU AMD integrated graphics, 6 TFLOPS

- RAM 12GB GDDR5

- 1TB HDD

- DVD reader, Blu-Ray (4K/HDR)

It is worth noting that both platforms are quite similar, although Microsoft offers clearly more. However, its price is also higher.

Gaming experience

Theoretically speaking, the Xbox One X should be able to generate video faster and provide higher quality due to its greater processing power. After the release of both devices, this was of course intensively tested and reality shows that the results are sometimes very different. This is primarily due to the fact that it is very important to optimize games for each console, which means that it would really be necessary to check the capabilities of each game individually and make individual judgments.

Xbox One X offers 60 frames per second at 4K resolution. In practice, there are sometimes problems with this and many games allow you to optimize the gameplay for performance or image quality, which has obvious consequences. The great advantage of the console is its backward compatibility, which means that older titles from the same console can be played on it. Games that barely worked on older devices are now really spreading their wings and often allow you to play at up to sixteen times the resolution without any loss of smoothness. This is certainly something that a person with a large collection of games should not ignore.
