What is a roulette tournament?

Roulette, the casino game of betting on the outcome of a wheel of chance, has many variations and rules. Usually, whether the game is American, French or European roulette, the opponent is the casino ("house"). Roulette tournaments have one fundamental difference - you play against other participants, and the dealer is only the one who runs the game at the table.

HOW DOES AN INDIVIDUAL GAME DIFFER FROM A TOURNAMENT GAME?

When you sit down at a table with a handful of chips and start betting on numbers, combinations or colours, your main aim is to hit the result that falls on the wheel for that particular game. No matter how many players accompany you in the game, each of you plays individually for his account. The bank has an unlimited amount of funds, which it is ready to pay out to anyone who correctly predicts the outcome. You can stop the game at any time when you think you have won enough.

When you take part in a roulette tournament, you are not so much trying to win a specific amount of money, as to get more chips than the other participants within a time limit set by the rules. In this way, you are ranked in a constantly updated ranking. The best players move on to the next game, and those from lower positions are eliminated. The tournament continues until the final table with the several most successful players is determined and one of them finally wins.

How do I participate in a roulette tournament?

Anyone who would like to try their hand at such a tournament can simply follow the websites of casinos that announce such events from time to time. The best known European tournament is the ECR Privé. Anyone can enter by filling out a form and paying a fee. Those who pass the online qualifiers are invited to an exciting final in Malta, where they can compete for the main prize in a land-based casino.

Of course there are many tournaments, both land-based and virtual, organized by online casinos. Some of them do not require a buy-in (so called "Freerolls"), but the prizes are also relatively small. They are all about having fun and the thrill of competition. Other tournaments with a buy-in may have quite large prize pools, paid out either to the final winner or shared among the first few places. So it's worth keeping an eye on the casino sites and try your luck and skills.

HOW TO PLAY IN A TOURNAMENT TO WIN?

winning in rouletteWhen you sit down to play against other players in roulette tournaments, what matters is not how much you win, but whether you win more than them. In order to achieve this, first of all familiarize yourself with the rules of the tournament you're competing in. It's important to know whether a round is determined by how long you play for, say, an hour or two, by the number of "spins", i.e. individual rounds, or whether it ends when you've played a set amount of chips. You also need to be aware of the other rules, so you know what you're allowed to do and what you're not. Then you're left with choosing the right strategy, depending on what your current ranking stakes look like.

Playing aggressively

"The world belongs to the brave, which is why it's a good idea to try out aggressive play from the start. You can bet on individual numbers or combinations of numbers, hoping for fewer but bigger wins. Don't worry about losing, gradually increase the stakes, assuming that with time the probability will work in your favour and the following winnings will cover your previous bets.

Playing calmly

This strategy comes in handy later in the game when the round is nearing its end and you're in a good position to advance. You can then calm down your game to avoid losses. It's a good idea to switch to betting on colours or other bets with a win ratio of 1:2. You can, of course, play this way from the very beginning, but observe the results of other players and modify your strategy accordingly.

When the luck doesn't lie with you... play for everything!
Roulette is a game of chance. Whatever your tactics, there are times when fate can be unkind. When you're running out of money or the game time starts running out, then it's worth considering throwing in a big bet. If you try - you have a chance to win. If you don't try - you won't win for sure.

Live roulette or online roulette?
Land-based casinos in Poland offer roulette games. They certainly organize local tournaments, which are worth taking part in, especially if you like competition or just want to meet other people who share your passion. However, if you don't have the opportunity to visit a casino in person, you can take advantage of the wide range of services offered by online casinos. They have the same rules and even though you don't sit at the table in person, playing a tournament can give you the same thrill as playing in a real casino room. The advantage of online casinos is that your winnings can be cashed in quickly and automatically. In a traditional casino you usually have to wait for the dealers to calculate the results, pick a winner and distribute the prize pool.

Are roulette tournaments legal?

Yes, but we have to remember two things:

First, both regular and tournament roulette is a game of chance. Although the game is played with chips, it's the money that counts in the end, so we should remember that casinos are only for adults. When crossing the threshold of a land-based casino, we show our ID, and when logging on to an online casino, we also have to confirm our identity.

Secondly, casinos operating legally in Poland must have a valid license from the Ministry of Finance. It's good to check if the online casino in which we want to play has such a document. This way we'll avoid many problems and provide ourselves with comfort of entertainment, knowing that we're playing in a safe place. The current legislation concerning online casinos in Poland, in practice introduces a state monopoly. The only legal online casino currently operating in our country is a brand owned by the state.

WHERE TO FIND DETAILED RULES OF THE ROULETTE TOURNAMENT GAME?

There are no single, universal tournament rules. This is the charm of this type of entertainment, that each organizer can introduce different options and rules. Of course, all the rules regarding registration, initial deposit and tournament conduct should be available to everyone before the tournament begins. You can usually read the rules on the organizer's website or, in the case of a land-based casino, directly on site.
