Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System - console review

The Nintendo Classic Mini: NES was released nearly a year ago, and there's no denying its success. This time machine won the hearts of retro lovers, and even though it was hard to ignore at least a few of its typical flaws.

So now it's worth asking the question of whether its successor is doing equally well? When we analyze the history of the NES mini console, it's hard not to resist the impression that the manufacturer himself did a lot to complicate its life. It was he who at one point stopped production and decided that we will have to deal with a limited product. The next edition of the miniature console, however, is expected to have a slightly larger print run, which will give a larger group of fans the chance to acquire it and enjoy the possibilities it creates. Of course, once again it's good to be aware that we're basing this primarily on promises.

We can hope that they will come to fruition, but this is nothing certain. Even the first contact with the SNES Classic Mini can arouse some satisfaction, because much indicates that this time Nintendo a little more carefully listened to the voices coming from their fans. This is particularly evident in the presence of a convenient micro-USB cable in the box, although we should also appreciate the fact that we gained a controller that can be used by a second player. Unfortunately, the plug itself we have to buy separately, although the manufacturer argues that his product can be powered directly from the USB port present in the TV.

What arouses a hard to question admiration is, above all, the attention to detail. The hardware is almost no different from the original SNES console and looks as if it has shrunk in the wash for some reason. Both the edges and other details are reproduced almost phenomenally, although on the back we can only count on the micro-USB port and HDMI. The appearance is quite frugal and deviates a bit from what we are dealing with nowadays, but we cannot forget that in this particular case it does not have to be seen as a drawback.

Similar care applies to the controller. We are not dealing with a perfect reproduction, but there's no denying that the differences can be successfully described as small things. It's almost a perfect copy of the pad that came with the SNES. Also, the system of the console will look familiar to all those people who have dealt with it in the past. We have mostly the same options, such as the ability to decide for ourselves what type of display we will use. The last few seconds of our fun can be recorded, and this should protect us from the consequences of making a record in a really unfortunate place. However, the thing that should appeal most to the audience is the set of available games. Yes, the range of available titles is clearly smaller than it was in the case of the predecessor, but we are dealing with games of impressive length and only the highest quality. The vast majority are also games that have already passed into legend.
